Female Viagra is finally coming out

Announced some time ago, Female Viagra has just been approved for the American market. How does this new drug work? Is it a real revolution for women?

The pink pill will soon be on sale in the United States

We knew the famous blue pill, but since August, we can also count on the little pink pill, this time adapted to women: Female Viagra has just been authorized in the United States.

Indeed, the American FDA (Food Drug Administration), the equivalent of our French drug agency, authorized in August, the prescription sale of flibanserin, the first female Viagra.

A new drug as effective as Viagra? Not so sure!

This new drug should act on the breakdowns of libido in women, but unlike Viagra for men whose action is exclusively mechanical, flibanserin is a drug that stimulates neurotransmitters that have an impact on libido: the molecule will help produce more dopamine and norepinephrine, reducing the production of serotonin.

This drug will not be effective within hours of taking the tablet, but only after 4 weeks, being taken every night at bedtime.

Moreover, according to clinical trials conducted with 2,400 women over 6 months, 38% of patients who took placebos saw their libido improve, compared to 51% of women who took the real drug, which corresponds to an efficiency of just over 10%!

Significant side effects

According to the studies, not only does the effectiveness remain very moderate, but this new drug is not without side effects.

Indeed, many risks seem to be linked to this product, including nausea, sleepiness, fatigue, heart problems, syncopation, all of which are amplified by the intake of alcohol.

So, is this female Viagra really a revolution or just a new product with a more or less lucrative purpose? To be continued…
